Fifteen questions to ask your birth photographer
Did you know you can have the birth of a child photographed? We are here to tell you — YOU CAN! And it’s A-mazing!
What better major life event to document than the much-anticipated arrival of your baby. But just like any true investment, you will want to be sure you hire a professional photographer with experience and a solid business in place. You will want to be certain your birth photographer will be there when the time comes and has a plan in place for any contingencies. Use the following list as guidance during your consultation. And don’t be afraid to ask all the questions!
Fifteen questions to ask a potential Birth Photographer:
Do you have a backup photographer?
Will we have a contract in place before I deliver?
Do you have a business license and business insurance?
What is your policy for unexpected situations?
How long have you been photographing births?
Can you share a full birth gallery with me?
Do you have any reviews or testimonials I can see?
Can we meet in person before I book you?
Have you ever worked with my doula/midwife/OB/GYN/birth team?
Are you comfortable making photos in dark rooms?
Will you be using flash?
Do you understand the birth process?
Are you comfortable photographing birth in all it’s forms?
Do you offer refunds? Payment plans? Registry?
How early in the pregnancy do I need to book?
Having a conversation with a potential birth photographer, whether in person, on Zoom, or even over the phone, will give you further peace of mind and help you decide whether you feel comfortable enough to invite her into your birthing space.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if we can answer any questions for you!
We always like to plan an in-person meeting or Zoom call with potential clients to meet you beforehand and to give you a sense of who we are and what we believe. This process of discovering whether or not we are a “good fit” with each other will hopefully help you make your decision.
